Department of State Announces Plans to Implement the CHIPS Act International Technology Security and Innovation Fund

Semiconductors and telecommunications networks are central to the U.S.  and securing ICT networks and services is important to protect and grow those networks. Having root technology development impacts the entire semiconductor supply chain and the protective policies within.

Read....

Notes: (Copied and Summarized):

-The International Technology Security and Innovation Fund (“ITSI Fund”)

 -CHIPS Act of 2022 provides the Department with $500 million ($100 million per year over five years)

-ITSI funding will support programs across three workstreams:

     1. working with countries to develop policy and regulatory frameworks that ensure security is a central decision-making factor in ICT procurements;

     2. leveraging financing, investment de-risking and other tools to catalyze private sector investments in secure ICT networks, including open and interoperable network architectures;

     3. and working to provide cybersecurity tools and services to improve partner countries’ ability to defend against, manage, respond to, and recover from cybersecurity threats.

Btw....while this may not seem significant you have to look back a few years and see ourselves being kicked in the teeth. This starts the massive change process that puts us into competitive advantages. That is assuming everything works out the way it should. Fingers crossed we are almost in a place we can push digital development/innovation, advanced manufacturing/products, and human capital (The last component is still relatively weak. Waiting on politicians. The DOJ took a big step recently in creating the right legal assumptions of human dignity. Our institutions must develop our talent to higher levels. Digital GDP)
